How to Stop Procrastinating?

Procrastination- a phenomenon we are all too familiar with and guilty of succumbing to at some point in our life (unfortunately, more often than what we would like to admit). We feel that we must get some work done but are not able to bring ourselves to actually doing it, and instead of doing the needful, we end up in a turmoil of terror where we stay in our comfort zones, wasting endless hours on entertainment and relaxation. This goes on and on till the last minute when stress and pressure force us to finish the task; but in some cases, the job never gets done at all.

Although we might feel like we deserve the break (which lasts from hours to days), procrastination does absolutely no good to us- both, in the long-run as well as the near future of the individual. The subconscious guilt of not getting work done may make us feel like a loser. It even results in poorly submitted work, incomplete tasks, and a horrible image on oneself while affecting one’s creativity and productivity, amongst many other areas. With these low levels of self-esteem, it is crucial to beat the evils of procrastination and take our stand once and for all, here are some tricks that have been proven in overcoming it.

First and foremost, force yourself to start working. Yes, it is that simple yet the hardest step one needs to take to get their work done. Hold the reins of your schedule, manage it well and get started with your work with short breaks in between to get the creativity going.
Next, it is very crucial to know yourself best. Analyze your energy levels and correlate it to your productivity to manage what tasks work best during specific intervals of time. For instance, when you feel lethargic or tired, it is necessary to relax your mind and take up less-challenging tasks or even exercise your hobbies during that period and while you’re with high energy levels, you must take up the more-daunting and less-pleasing work. This way you get everything done.

With these hurdles on the path to meaningful education, we are proud to do our part in helping connect students to financial support. By using the FundLearner platform, students can submit their projects and get backing from supporters Whether it be family or friends, people can donate to their progress and be updated on their work. At launch, we’re accepting any projects that deal with a student’s educational pursuits including tuition fees, supplies, school projects, travel fees etc. FundLearner is both a way for students to find funding, people to help these students and others to track their progress.

Set long-term goals instead of short-term ones

As often setting short-term goals involves cramping our schedule with just a couple very daunting tasks for hours in a stretch and neglecting everything during that period. This may not be very fruitful in the long run as one is more prone to getting exhausted by the immense workload and relapsing into procrastination yet again sooner than later. A better approach would be setting long-term goals that can allow us to complete a small part of the workload every day and incorporate other tasks as well, this way we are not neglecting other tasks and not overworking ourselves either, hence giving room to productivity.

Never forget to differentiate goals from unrealistic expectations. Yes, we all like to dream big and envision success while reaching our milestones in life, but it equally important to not overlap our goals from unreachable, unreasonable and unrealistic expectations which may only disappoint us at the end. Major disappointments in our life tend to make a person give up or procrastinate chronically.

Do not be afraid

of an identity shift and changing your lifestyle for the better. Most individuals who succumb to procrastination regard themselves as lazy and good-for-nothing beings, while guiltily continuing the same pitiful lifestyles. For one, it entirely for one’s betterment in adopting a healthier and more active lifestyle. It will not only give us more energy to get our work done but will build a positive image of ourselves in our minds, thus encouraging self-reflection and appreciation which will help us do our best.

These techniques, although proven positive, will not be entirely useful if you do not take a step forward first. Try it, get outside your comfort zone and it may just change your life forever.
